YEAR 3 – Key Stage 2
Welcome to our Year 3 page. Here you can find out about some of the exciting things you can expect this year.
In Year 3 we enjoy daily Literacy lessons which include Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG), Guided and Independent Reading, Big Writing, Comprehension and The Power of Reading. Over the year we will cover the work of various authors starting with Anthony Browne and Caroline Binch.
We have weekly spelling tests.
Every child will have a reading book which they should change regularly (having read with parents at home as well as staff in school) and a Library Book.
Daily Numeracy lessons will include: Times Table practice; shape, space and measure; number and calculations; data handling; mental maths and measuring. This year we will revise 2, 5 & 10 times tables and conquer the 3, 4 & 8 times tables.
Our weekly PE lesson is on a Friday afternoon. It would be useful to leave PE kit in school so it is always ready if needed. The PE kit should include dark leggings/shorts/tracksuit bottoms, a light/white t-shirt and pumps/trainers. Again, earrings need to be removed.
This year we will be beginning our topic work by learning about Prehistory (the Stone Age to the Iron Age). Sometimes Cross-curricular will be a history led topic and sometimes it will be geography led. We will also include art and DT activities and lessons.
Other lessons in Year 3 include: ICT, Music (recorders and percussion), French, RE and PSHE. We encourage you to research all of our topics and get involved in the lessons through homework, adding to our class displays and personal interests.
